Myth Senshi :: Reboot

IMPORTANT:The mythological figures and legends character designs based on are there just as a start point for me. I tried to make character designs look more universal so I did some mixing of cultures and fashion styles. I did not pick Tengu for instance, to base character design on japanese culture. Also I think, if this was a canon design for the series, their personalities would most likely effect the design of their outfits, no? Sailor senshi all had different shoes and accesories unique to their personalities.

My entry piece to Sailor Moon Reboot contest. This kinda killed me.... Scanner doesn't pick up all goodness and awesomeness of the silver and gold paint, so I had to dodge and touch up a bit on photoshop to boost up the look of the paint :/ There is a tumblr link below this comment, showing wip stages and glory of gold, silver paint

The idea was Sailor Senshi being loyal to their mythical roots, they were inspired of planets but also were influenced on the mythological figures each planet represent. I tried to give that one a try. Each senshi are actually based on a mythological figure or entity, from left to right...

Venus~ Siren :: For the obvious reasons, was chosen this role, she seems content with my choice
Jupiter~ Spirit of Forest/Artemis :: Although her powers were also based on thunder -much as Zeus who's represented by the planet, I decided to go for the forest spirit. Because I wanted to draw those deer antlers :F Also I think Makoto is noble and pure like Artemis, being a warrior maiden herself.
Moon~ Moon Goddess Selene :: Obvious reasons again, since she was Moon Princess, why not be a goddess while we're at it?
Mars~ Tengu Princess :: Rei was a bit hard to decide, I didn't want her to be all western, she had very oriental looks and was obviously the most typical asian looking one of the group. I picked tengu, because Rei had two crow familiars on first season at manga. Also Tengu are fighters, mischevious and dangerous spirits. I instantly liked the idea of a Tengu Princess, though there are none in mythology I think tengus need a princess afterall [Even though she's based on a japanese mythology, her design is based on more than one asian cultures, hence the confusng design and pattern. That's intentional...]
Mercury~ Nymphe/Hermes :: I went for her planet entity, though wanted her to be a water nymph as well... She turned out as a mix of the two and I'm quite happy with the way she looks.

Mars stands out more than the rest, thanks to lack of gold and glitter paint -__-;;; Originally glitters balance it all well, taking attention from Mars and focus more on Moon, each senshi look equally attention grabbing with those T___T Now they're not visible here, she stands out more..... Oh well...
